Sunday Mail Opinion says if anything should be a wake-up call for the Scottish Government over the growing scandal of pupils going hungry in class, it is debt-collectors chasing hard-up families over school meal payments.
A council overseeing some of Scotland’s most deprived communities is using debt collectors to pursue the parents of children who run up lunch money arrears.
For some reason this horrifying issue is something Scottish Government ministers have a blind spot over, despite repeated severe warnings from teachers, trade unions, parents and politicians across the board. If you are lucky enough not to be one of them it is worth stopping to think for a minute about how you would get through the month trying to bring up a family.
They are the people who work long hours in supermarkets, look after our elderly in care homes, pull pints in pubs, deliver prisoners to courts and man our call centres. They are the people keeping the economy and public services on the rails.
