Chelsea made Enzo Fernandez the Premier League’s most expensive ever signing as he joined from Benfica for £106.8mThe Premier League side had been tracking the Argentina international who shone at the World Cup and, at one point on deadline day, it looked like they would miss their top target.However, they got the deal over the line when granted a one hour extension to get the paperwork done after the 11pm deadline on Tuesday.
The fee doubles the January deadline day record, which currently stands at £56m when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang joinedIt also sees Fernandez surpass Jack Grealish – who cost Man City £100m in 2021 – as English football’s most expensive signing.
