Broadway’s longest-running American musical welcomes the 'Cruel Summer' star
“Whenever I book a role, I have an inward reaction because I'm overwhelmed,” says Holt who first made a splash in in the Disney XD series. “But with this I was jumping up and down and couldn't sit still. I just was so thrilled.”
Beginning April 10 Holt will play an 8-week limited engagement at the Ambassador Theatre alongside Kimberly Marable , Liam Fennecken , Charity Angél Dawson and Erich Bergen . Playing such a multifaceted woman gives Holt a true feeling of liberation. “This character is such a powerful female role. Roxie is so layered and has so many dimensions. She's up, she's down. She's quick. She’s smart and has this amazing wit,” says Holt. “Rob Bowman, our musical director put it perfectly. He says, ‘if the emotional Olympics were a sport, Roxie would be a champion.’”My body has never felt this way that it is. After every day I have to sit and process.
Brunner: When you were that kid seeing Chicago for the first, would you ever imagine that you would be playing Roxie?No. Absolutely not. I mean, months ago, never in a million years would I have thought this was going to happen.
