Chick-fil-A awards nearly $740,000 in scholarships to 380 Greater Houston area employees pursuing higher education.Chick-fil-A has awarded $25 million in scholarships this year to celebrate 50 years of scholarship funding. The total gift was distributed amongst more than 13,000 of the fast food chain's team members and 13"community service-minded students" across the U.S. and Canada.
Nearly $740,000 was earmarked for 380 Greater Houston area employees pursuing higher education opportunities. Chick-fil-A's scholarship tradition began in 1973. Since then, the restaurant has distributed more than $162 million in scholarships to 93,000 team members. In celebration of the milestone 50th anniversary, one student received a $50,000 scholarship, the largest gift awarded in the company's history.
Chick-fil-A has also recently announced that 13 scholarships worth $25,000 each were awarded to"community service-minded leaders" who are not employed by the company as part of the inaugural class of the Chick-fil-A Community Scholars program.
