The lawyer of a prominent Catholic priest accused of sexually abusing a boy has told the court the claims against his client had been either fabricated or mistaken.
Father Lancini says his lawyer will make further statements regarding any legal matters that may arise.
His lawyer, Justin Greggery, said witnesses had colluded on "demonstrably" fabricated statements before Father Lancini was charged in December 2023 with eight counts of indecent treatment of a boy under 14 years. He said a witness had provided other witnesses with Father Lancini's name and photographs and had later denied that to police.Mr Greggery told the court Father Lancini was a priest with an unblemished history.
Judge Viviana Keegan said as the prosecution had offered no evidence, she was dismissing all eight charges."I thank them for their kindness, their generosity and their goodness," he said.
