A child quarantined on Christmas Island is being tested for coronavirus as the Morrison government hopes a second and likely final Qantas flight to evacuate Australian residents will be permitted to leave Wuhan early on Sunday.
A specimen has been sent to Perth with the results not due back until Sunday. Professor Kelly said the child had been further isolated from the 277 other evacuees on Christmas Island, but she was well and it was "certainly not a serious illness at this stage".
Health Minister Greg Hunt said on Friday that everyone coming for quarantine outside of Darwin will have been screened five times. In Yokohama, there are seven Australians in hospital after testing positive for coronavirus on the Diamond Princess. There are a further 219 Australians who are well and being quarantined on the ship. In Hong Kong, the World Dream has 16 Australians on board, but it is not known if they are affected.
