Liz Flanagan is an award-winning children’s author who lives in Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire. Her latest book, Wildsmith: Into the Dark Forest, is out now from UCLan Publishing. It’s a real mixture. I have quiet days at my desk here in Hebden Bridge, then I travel midweek to teach at York St John University, there are busy days running workshops in schools or bookshops, and weekend time at home with my family and dogs.
There’s the new Crooked Books on Crown Street in Hebden: a stunning little shop stocked with magical books and gifts; and Wave of Nostalgia over in Haworth, which runs brilliant events. For children’s books, there’s The Thoughtful Spot in Halifax and the Children’s Bookshop in Lindley, both run by such enthusiastic booksellers who know their customers by name and make personal recommendations – you can’t beat that.
