Former Labor Senator Stephen Conroy says China has spent years “trying to pretend” it could peacefully convince Taiwan to rejoin the People’s Republic, but the Taiwanese have watched what China does to its “own citizens” .
“So if you’re sitting in Taiwan going, ‘look, we could do this, we could consider reintegrating into China’, you go, ‘but we know what they’re going to do’.
“The Ambassador yesterday said there’ll be re-education for the Taiwanese people, I mean, that would fill you with horror.”
