Chinese authorities scrambling to control a new coronavirus confirm it can be passed from person-to-person, as fresh cases are discovered in new cities.
China's state council reiterated the government will step up prevention efforts and find the source of infection and transmission channels as soon as possible, state television said on Monday."Who knows how many people who have been to Wuhan may be unaware that they have already been infected?," said one commentator on Chinese social media platform Weibo
China's National Health Commission said experts had judged the current outbreak to be"preventable and controllable." China has notified and maintained close communication with the World Health Organization and other relevant countries and regions, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said at a regular news briefing.
The state-run Global Times newspaper said in an editorial the government needed to disclose all information and not repeat the mistakes made with SARS.
