China's vehicle sales rose in September, helped by sales promotions and holiday buying.
Retail sales of passenger cars in the world's biggest auto market rose 5.0% on year and 5.0% on month to 2.02 million vehicles in September, the China Passenger Car Association said Wednesday. It cited higher demand ahead of October holidays and more sales promotions as automakers tried to hit quarterly sales goals.Retail sales of new-energy cars, which include electric and plug-in hybrids, grew 10.7% on year in September.
The CPCA added that it firmly opposes the European Union's anti-subsidy investigation related to electric vehicle imports from China and said that China had phased out its new-energy vehicles subsidies last year. The probe, announced last month, could lead to tariffs if European officials determine that China EV makers are receiving subsidies detrimental to Europe's auto industry.
