China's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin stressed there was 'no auto-pilot mode' to rebuild Beijing and Canberra's relationship but 'concrete actions' were a start.
China has insisted"concrete actions" are required to reset the relationship between Beijing and Canberra following the end of the diplomatic freeze of more than two years.
The Premier reportedly wrote in the letter on May 23 that Beijing was"ready to work with the Australian side to review the past and look into the future and uphold the principles of mutual respect and benefit ... development of comprehensive strategic partnership". Mr Wang was asked whether Mr Li had received a response and stressed there was"no auto-pilot" mode to rebuild the ties between the two nations.
Mr Wang declared movement to build the relationship from each government would"meet the aspirations of people in both countries" and"promote steady development of a comprehensive strategic partnership". Mr Marles hopes tensions have begun to ease between Beijing and Canberra after the pair discussed concerns, such as the Indo-Pacific and the intercept of an Australian aircraft in a one-hour gathering hailed as"critical" to the"complex" relationship.
