Chinese officials have claimed Australia’s AUKUS deal with the United Kingdom and the United States is an attempt to get nuclear weapons – a claim which has been rejected by Canberra.

The security deal between the three countries will allow the Royal Australian Navy to acquire nuclear-powered submarines in the future.

Beijing will take its argument to a high-level meeting at the United Nations next month in a 32-page report, which a spokesperson for the Chinese government says gives “detailed statistics and facts” for China’s campaign against the security deal between Australia and its allies.
