China says its military is on high alert and it will carry out targeted military operations following the arrival of US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in Taiwan.
Taiwanese officials have claimed 21 Chinese aircraft have already entered their airspace as the White House defended Ms Pelosi’s right to visit the country.
China has launched a joint military operation around Taiwan, including firing long-range ammunition and testing guided weapons. “Any countermeasures China is taking will be justified and necessary,” China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said.
