A Chinese official said military drills around the island were a stern warning against foreign interference, after Taiwan’s president visited the United States.

| China indicated it will maintain pressure on Taiwan following its large-scale military drills, a sign that tensions over the democracy’s status will linger.

Despite the tensions with China, Ms Tsai looked relaxed as she greeted the 10 Canadian legislators, even cracking a joke after the interpreter said “bonjour”, the French word for hello, in translating her opening remarks into English.
