Canberra has formally voiced its concerns to Beijing, after quick-thinking actions of the Australian pilot prevented a disaster.
A Chinese fighter jet has intercepted an Australian Navy helicopter in an incident labelled unsafe and unprofessional by the defence minister.In an exclusive sit-down with 9News, Defence Minister Richard Marles revealed HMAS Hobart faced near-disaster during an operation on Saturday evening supporting international efforts to prevent the smuggling of sanctioned goods.Defence Minister Richard Marles said Canberra has formally voiced its concerns about the incident to Beijing.
About 7.30pm , the People's Liberation Army jet dropped flares about 300 metres in front and 60 metres above the Seahawk."The consequences of being hit by the flares would have been significant," Marles said."But this was a very serious incident and it was unprofessional and it was unsafe."
