China ’s military has released a chilling video simulating a full-scale invasion of Taiwan , coinciding with a two-day operation which has prompted pleas for de-escalation from the West.The exercises, which saw fighter jets encircling Taiwan , were intended to be a “strong punishment for the separatist acts” of the island nation, according to military spokesman Colonel Li Xi.
In the video, fighter jets, bombers and warships are deployed in supposed news footage, which is followed by missiles being launched from land, sea, and air.The video features the comments, “Destroy the support pillars! Strike the base camp! Cut the blood vessels”.surrounding the island nation designed to test China's"joint sea-air combat readiness", drawing condemnation from Taipei for what it described as"irrational provocations.
"Using a normal, routine, and democratic transition as an excuse for military provocations risks escalation and erodes longstanding norms that for decades have maintained peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait," it said in a statement. In his inauguration speech, the President called on China to cease its political and military “intimidation” against Taiwan, and urged peace in the Taiwan Strait and the greater region.On Thursday, US Lt. General Stephen Sklenka addressed the National Press Club in Canberra, where he encouraged vigilance when it comes to responding to China’s increasing aggression in the region.
