Dr Gerrard said the peak of cases will hit different parts of Queensland at different times, as he warned against changing public health measures before then.
Queensland’s Chief Health Officer has revealed how the current wave of COVID-19 is expected to wash over the state, as he admits there is likely over a million cases of the virus already.
CHO John Gerrard said there had been more than a quarter of a million virus cases recorded since Queensland had opened its domestic borders last year, but the true number was probably far greater due to a lack of testing capability. Dr Gerrard said the peak of the virus had now almost certainly hit in NSW, meaning Queensland’s peak was about two weeks away.
Complicating matters was the return of students to school from Monday, February 7, which Dr Gerrard said could potentially exacerbate the peak of cases in some parts of the state.
