A new type of choir is coming to life in Brisbane, and it's making a huge difference to people living with dementia and their families.

The Bright N Sparks choir in Brighton is an initiative of Metro North Health and it's attracting plenty of new members.

"We've seen amazing things happen in just a few short weeks," Claire Harrison from Metro North Health said."It allows them to connect with memories," she said. Some who attend are choir singers, some have come because they just love to sing. Neil Begley, who has been diagnosed with dementia, is an experienced voice, with his choir journey starting in China where his parents were missionaries.Police investigate after Eddie Betts shares video of racist abuse towards kidsAfter the rehearsals, she says her husband is "just filled with energy and wanting to do things, it has a very positive effect".

"We've watched some of our people come out of themselves, just being smiling and happy, conversing with each other, sharing stories, getting to know one another," Harrison said. A team of volunteers makes this all happen every Friday morning at the Brighton Wellness hub on Brisbane's northside, with morning tea provided.
