NSW Opposition Leader Chris Minns is calling on the state government to scrap the curfew in COVID-19 hotspots, as Deputy Premier John Barilaro breaks ranks over the issue.
Residents in 12 local government areas of concern have been banned from leaving their homes between 9pm and 5am each day since August 23 in an attempt to curb the spread of the Delta variant.
"I've been really concerned about the curfew… two million people being locked up, have to be in their homes by 9 o’clock every evening," Mr Minns told Sky News Australia host Chris Kenny on Monday. Mr Barilaro has resisted calls to implement a curfew in Dubbo, western NSW, which has had 617 cases since the Delta variant took hold in the regional city.
