New South Wales Premier Chris Minns addresses the first toll increase for the Sydney Harbour Bridge crossing in over ten years. Mr Minns said “any money” raised from the increase will go toward toll relief for the state’s network on January 1. “There’s a 60-dollar toll cap that’ll apply for the entire state – you won’t pay more than 60 dollars in a week,” he told Sky News Australia. “But it hasn’t been lifted since 2009 – to put that into perspective, a trip from Campbelltown to the city has gone from 12 dollars to 34 dollars return. A trip from over the Harbour Bridge has gone from 4 dollars to 4 dollars. “So there needed to be some fairness between those that live in the east and the west, and any money we raise will go back into toll relief.”

NSW government criticised for ‘squandering’ budget surplusNew South Wales Opposition Leader Mark Speakman has criticised the NSW Minns government, saying they “squandered” their surplus. Mr Speakman’s comments come after the NSW Treasurer Daniel Mookhey released the state’s 2023 budget. The Opposition Leader said instead of the government reinvesting the surplus on “front line services, in infrastructure and significantly in addressing housing affordability” they “squandered it” on unfunded wage increases. “Chris Minns went to the election promising that public sector wage increases would be entirely funded by productivity improvements ... instead he’s done a deal with his union masters,” Mr Speakman told Sky News Australia. “It’s a government making real cuts to overall health, education, police, TAFE and fire and rescue – all because they have employee expenses spiralling out of control.”
