NSW Premier Chris Minns has issued a stern warning ahead of the weekend with Sydney Pro-Palestinian protests set to go ahead after an agreement was reached with police.
NSW Premier Chris Minns has issued a stern warning ahead of planned pro-Palestinian rallies for the anniversary of Hamas' October 7 attacks, reminding protesters of a"massive" police presence in Sydney.
“I think New South Wales police and the government are concerned about the weekend, so I don't want to leave the impression that we're not. As a result of that, police resourcing will be massive in the city on Sunday and Monday,” Mr Minns said. Mr Minns argued the reason for the restrictions on protests was to “keep the public safe” and said it was not meant to block freedom of speech. Picture: NewsWire / Damian Shaw.
“I made it clear in the application in court with crystal clear this was not an attempt to restrict freedom of speech in Sydney. It was genuine community concerns about safety on Sydney streets and an attempt to stop a conflict on those streets,” he said.
