Sutty can't accept that Celtic still found themselves unprepared for this level despite having months to get ready.
Fast forward a year and they are still a development team at the highest level of Europe under Brendan Rodgers. If Celtic are in there again next season, that simply cannot be the case for a third time. Constantly I hear from the players about lessons being learned, but that goes for the whole club.
Those who were leaving needed to be replaced properly and strengthening was also needed because, having finished the campaign with two points last term, it was clear that even the side who ended that term required more furnishing. Instead, Celtic went backwards. As a club, Celtic have to be on that right now. I know the market is changeable and targets can alter, but Rodgers will have a grasp of what he wants and they need to be brought in either in January and on the first of June next year.
I see teams in the same areas of the footballing chain as them suffering the same. Antwerp, no points. Young Boys, no points. Benfica have no points. Celtic drew with them twice last season, yet on the night my old team were losing six goals in Madrid, the Ukrainians were beating Barcelona. They’ve gone forward, Celtic have gone backwards.
