The former Parkhead striker reckons both Glasgow sides have egg on their face across the continent
Sides were splitting with the Celtic fans 24 hours later when Rangers went down to the third best team in Limassol. Never mind all this giggling in Glasgow – this week in Europe has been no laughing matter. It was a disastrous couple of days for Scottish football and certainly nothing to smile about.
It’s hard to be overly critical because they did play well. They deserved at least a draw but certainly not to lose. But how many times can we hear them going on about ‘learning’ from these experiences. They don’t have the players suited to playing any other way than on the deck, so you can’t criticise them for not whipping in crosses. But it does make them predictable when there isn’t any variation.
This Champions League group is not a walk in the park but it’s about as close to a gift as you are going to get at this level. None of these sides are going to win the competition and it should have been a chance to compete for the knockout stages. He was given a lot of power and responsibility over the summer – despite not a lot of evidence to suggest he warranted it last term – and it’s backfired spectacularly. I have a degree of sympathy for him as seven games is extremely early in a campaign to be getting rid of a manager and new signings do need time to adjust and settle.
He was allowed to get away with failing in the big games an then trusted to spent a small fortune. It can’t happen again this time. There’s been a few interesting names linked with the job, like Frank Lampard.
