AAMI, an Australian insurance company, has identified the suburbs with the highest number of carpark-related accidents during the Christmas shopping season. The data reveals that Wednesday afternoons are the most dangerous time for carpark collisions.

Parking at a carpark can sometimes be tricky, especially when there are tight corners and narrow spots. In fact, there are some suburbs around the country notorious for having some of the worst carparks where bumps and scratches are likely to happen. AAMI has found the number of claims for carpark-related crashes rise in December, as Australians take to shopping centres to sort out their Christmas presents.

'A busy time for shopping means a busy time for car parks, and this is reflected in a spike in collisions over the festive season,' AAMI Motor Claims Manager Leah James said. 'Shopping on the quieter days, driving just that little bit slower and staying extra vigilant could be the difference between a smooth ride and a prang this Christmas season.' AAMI has compiled the data and found the suburbs in each state and territory where these hits are most likely to happen. The worst Australian Capital Territory suburb for carpark-related hits is Belconnen.Locals may likely agree but carparks in Modbury in South Australia are notorious for hits and prangs. While weekends are popular for shopping, AAMI found that Wednesday afternoons were the worst time to be stuck in a carpark. The Western Australian suburb of Baldavis came in fourth place for the most number of carpark-related incidents.Narrowly avoiding first place for the worst number of carpark incidents is the New South Wales suburb of Chatswood.AAMI found Saturday afternoons were when most of the incidents occurred. The insurer advises motorists to pay special attention to cars moving in and out of parking spots, be vigilant around pedestrians, avoid unnecessary distractions and use your headlights in darker carparks
