We chat with WeHaveAGhost director Christopher Landon (creetureshow) about making a family-friendly horror comedy, working with a stellar cast, and hoping for more HappyDeathDay and Freaky:
We Have a Ghost is written and directed by Christopher Landon. We Have a Ghost follows a family as they move into their new home, but the house already has an occupant. Ernest the ghost has been haunting this house for years, but when he fails to scare the family away, he befriends the younger of the two teenage sons, Kevin.
Christopher Landon: Look, the film is based on a short story. And I was really taken by this really fresh take on a ghost story. It just felt unique. I love that it had this social media lens that you could see it through. I love the characters. I love the idea of a teenage kid befriending a ghost and deciding to go on a quest to help him figure out who he is. I think all those elements really resonated for me.
Your cast in this is phenomenal. Anthony Mackie, David Harbour, Jennifer Coolidge, the list goes on and on. How did that casting process come about? How did you get these folks on board for this? Christopher Landon: Look, I can only say I've had an idea for Happy Death Day 3 for a while. It's been pitched to everyone, so that's a real thing. The Happy Death Day/Freaky crossover is more just the fantasy of getting to work with Jessica Rothe and Kathryn together in one film. And I just think tonally, they would blend well together. But in terms of what that plot actually looks like, I don't know yet.
