South Australia's Attorney-General and Aboriginal Affairs Minister Kyam Maher has spoken to the state's Police Commissioner, following 'confronting' footage taken during an arrest near Port Augusta at the weekend.
Earlier this week, police officers attended a home near Port Augusta in South Australia where a 42-year-old man was arrested and charged with hindering and assaulting police.
"However, the commissioner has determined to authorise both the disclosure and publication of the above information in relation to this complaint as it is in the public interest to do so." Mr Carpenter recommended anyone who felt they had been subject to excessive force by a police officer should contact a lawyer."They have the ability to act in accordance with certain lawful guidelines, and when they breach those guidelines, the police are then liable for the acts of the officers."Attorney-General and Minister for Aboriginal Affairs Kyam Maher said he had been speaking to both members of the local community and police about the incident.
