The recent CNN Trump Town Hall meeting was an hour-long airing of grievances from a man who is continuing to sulk over losing an election.
But we expected that kind of behavior from the former president. What we did not expect was the blind approval that the audience provided for every one of his outrageous claims. One newspaper wrote, “The audience’s regular interruptions on behalf of Mr. Trump were like a laugh track on a sitcom. No matter how vulgar, profane or politically incorrect Mr. Trump was, the Republican crowd in New Hampshire audibly ate up the shtick of the decades-long showman.
Even though he fought to raise the debt limit three times in his four years as president, he now says that we should just default on our debt. What accounts for his 180-degree change in position? “I’m not the president anymore,” he says. And the crowd roars with laughter.
