St Kilda defender Hunter Clark had surgery on Saturday morning to repair a nasal fracture suffered when he clashed heads with teammate Dan Butler in a nasty incident late in the team’s upset win over Carlton at Marvel Stadium.
Saints head of football David Rath said they would no later in the week how long Howard would be sidelined.“Dougal will consult a specialist following a knee scan earlier today and undergo an arthroscopy on Tuesday to assess a medial meniscal tear,” Rath said. Clark was also on the end of a bump from Carlton recruit Zac Williams during the 2021 pre-season that saw the Blue suspended. However, this incident was just bad luck with Clark and Butler cannoning into each other as they attempted to tackle former Saint Jack Newnes, who is now at Carlton.“He’s had a bad run. He’s put his head in some wrong spots and been cleaned up and it doesn’t usually happen in the game,” Ratten said.
The win will also quieten debate about whether the Saints should extend Ratten’s contract beyond this season however the coach said it would not change the pace of the negotiations. There was one charge laid out of the match review, with the Saints’ Mason Wood cited for rough conduct on Carlton’s Adam Saad during the third quarter. He can accept a $2000 fine with an early guilty plea.
“As a result of these discussions, it has been mutually decided that Williamson will step away from AFL football for 2022 and depart the football club.
