Clashes between Israeli security forces and Palestinians around Jerusalem’s most sensitive holy site left dozens injured
, amid high tensions around overlapping religious holidays that are expected to bring tens of thousands of worshipers to the city.
Israeli police said they were forced to use crowd-dispersal measures around the Al Aqsa mosque after groups of young masked men used fireworks, stones and other heavy objects to attack Israeli security forces in the area. The Palestinian Red Crescent said 90 people were injured by stun grenades, rubber bullets and beatings. Israel’s police said three officers were lightly injured in the clashes.
