Australian law firms have joined forces to run a landmark data breach complaint against private health insurer Medibank after data from millions of customers was released on the dark web in October.

The three law firms have been investigating compensation claims and say they have already registered tens of thousands of Medibank customers. Under the firms' co-operation agreement, they will now pursue the OAIC complaint seeking compensation for those affected by the data breach.
