The documents were found on Nov. 2 by Biden’s lawyers while they were packing files at an office at the Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement and date to his time as vice president, Richard Sauber, special counsel to the president stated.
The FBI is involved in an inquiry assigned to the U.S. attorney in Chicago by Attorney General Merrick Garland to review the documents, say reports. Biden used the office space from mid-2017 to until the spring of 2019, the start of his 2020 presidential campaign. On the day of the discovery of the classified material, Sauber said the White House Counsel’s Office notified the National Archives, which took possession of the documents the following morning. He added that the White House was cooperating with the National Archives and the Justice Department.
