More pertinently for Barty, her idol Evonne Goolagong won it the year before that in 1977.After defeating tall American Madison Keys 6-1, 6-3 in a little over an hour, the world No.1 advanced to the final where she hopes to claim her third grand slam title to go with her Wimbledon and French Open wins.
The Australian world No. 1 bulldozed through the first set against the former US Open finalist, breaking serve in the opening game. Doubtless the American had planned around the Australian’s weapon, which she uses to control points, but Barty perhaps surprised Keys by instead more regularly going to her double-hand backhand.
