An outback Queensland council has built new houses to attract skilled workers to town, including some from interstate.Julie Hill is busy decorating her brand new house and looking for coffee spots in Cloncurry, the outback Queensland town she now calls home.

The council has built nine new houses hoping to capture some of this workforce growth and to minimise the impact of the fly-in, fly-out population bleed from nearby mines. "And we want to see a lot of these pretty great mining jobs with people having the opportunity to live here to access them." Ms Hill's family leases their new home in the council-built estate through Evolution Mining, the current operator of Ernest Henry copper mine, where her partner works as a superintendent.come October 26, as Queensland's housing stock strains under a growing population, which is set to reach 7m by 2046.The LNP set the same goal but is promising to shave two years off the timeline.
