“Residents believe they will not be well-serviced by a Metro and that prices will be higher, particularly as flyers distributed by Woolworths staff at the store state ‘pricing will be adjusted to cover Metro’s higher cost of doing business,’” she wrote. Andrew Wong launched a petition to stop his local Woolworths in Alexandria from being converted into a Metro.Alexandria resident Andrew Wong said he was upset at the lack of choice: “We choose to go to the supermarket because of how much the Metros charge. We’re being squeezed.”
The spokesperson also said Metros will have the same proportion of lower-cost Woolworths-branded products and will participate in the seasonal Prices Dropped, Low Prices program and catalogue specials.
