The results of a chaotic local election season in New South Wales are in, with Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore winning an unprecedented sixth term and a wash of informal votes contributing to mixed results for both major parties.

The Northern Beaches, South Sydney, Lane Cove Council area, the Hunter, parts of western Sydney and the inner west, and the Blue Mountains all saw an informal vote tally of at least 20 per cent. However, the party appears set to pick up a seat in Byron, while the also enjoyed a landslide in one ward in Penrith due to the lack of Liberal opposition candidates.
