In January 2023 director of the first Cloverfield movie and Cloverfield 2 producer Matt Reeves teased the possible storyline of the sequel. In an interview with SyFy coinciding with the 15th anniversary of the first movie, Reeves disclosed some details about what the Cloverfield 2 story could be about and that it could be inspired in-part by the COVID-19 pandemic. “Contagion is certainly really scary …” Reeves explained, “There would be a scary movie to do for sure about the spread of the virus.
Cloverfield 2 Is Confirmed The True Cloverfield Sequel Is Happening Cloverfield 2 was announced by Paramount in 2018 and was confirmed to be a true sequel to 2008’s Cloverfield. While the original was followed by 10 Cloverfield Lane and The Cloverfield Paradox to make the Cloverfield trilogy, the connections between the movies are vague. Cloverfield 2 will be a direct sequel to the original Cloverfield, although it won’t be another found-footage movie.
