The U.S. Coast Guard rescued two people Saturday morning after learning their boat was at risk of capsizing 60 miles away from the Galveston shore, officials said.
The Coast Guard is conducting a search for survivors after a helicopter went down off the coast of Louisiana.
A SafetyNet message was issued requesting assistance from mariners nearby. A 623-foot bulk carrier,"Global Vega," arrived to help the two people on board, but was told they regained control of their sailboat and didn't need any further assistance. "I've never been on a boat in by myself before," Petty Officer 2nd Class Trey Grein told The Houston Chronicle, who assisted in the rescue."I can imagine it be pretty scary."
