Cody Simpson has played down any rift in the Australian swimming team after suggestions of frosty relations between his superstar girlfriend Emma McKeon and sprint ace Kyle Chalmers.
Simpson is having the time of his life in his first outing in the green and gold. He missed the final of the 50m butterfly but produced a rock-solid leg in the 4x100m freestyle relay heats to ensure the Australians safe passage to the final.
McKeon produced a signature blistering swim to touch the wall first and was congratulated by teammates William Yang and Mollie O’Callaghan. Chalmers didn’t follow suit and the duo didn’t appear to interact during the post-match interviews and presentations. “We’re all teammates. I’m not sure how he or she are dealing with that. But in saying that, in the warm-up and out on deck we’ve all been teammates, regardless of whatever may have been,” Simpson said.“So far we’ve been going really good and I can only speak for my experience and so far we are doing really well.”
