Snow, rain and blustery winds are set to hit multiple states when a wintry cold front sweeps across much of southern Australia.

Gusts exceeding 90 km/h are forecast to blow through south-east South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria, the Australian Capital Territory and parts of east and southeast New South Wales from tonight.

Tasmania is right in the firing line, with gusts reaching 100km/h and even 125km/h in exposed coastal and elevated areas in the north and west, according toSnow, rain and blustery winds will hit multiple states as a wintry cold front sweeps across much of southern Australia. The winds will then travel north, with Melbourne and parts of Victoria told to brace for a blustery Tuesday before they reach coastal Sydney on Wednesday.Between 40 and 80 millimetres is forecast to fall in the west and north, and 15-30 millimetres in other areas of the state by Wednesday morning.The Alps could finally see snow this week, with 15-25 centimetres expected above 1500 metres. Lighter falls of up to about 10 centimetres could be seen at altitudes as low as 1200-1300 metres.
