Coles has introduced an Acknowledgement of Country on its receipts, as part of a wider Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander plan which includes cultural learning and respect.
An Acknowledgment of Country is given at the beginning of a meeting or event and if delivered with sincerity is an opportunity for anyone to show respect to Traditional Owners.
A Coles spokesperson said in a statement the supermarket was proud to include the Acknowledgment of Country as one of Australia’s largest employers of Indigenous peoples. “We work hard to create opportunities for Indigenous peoples, organisations, communities and customers to engage with our business and continue to increase understanding, value and recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories, knowledge and rights.”
