Coles will no longer sell kitchen knives after an employee was allegedly stabbed by a 13-year-old boy in Queensland on Monday.
"Coles complies with all legislation regarding the sale of kitchen knives, and this withdrawal is being taken out of an abundance of caution as we conduct a review," the statement said. Knife sales were brought back after a review, and sold in "specialised high-grade, clamshell packaging", a spokesperson said."There is no place for violence like this anywhere in our community and all retail workers deserve the right to a safe and respectful workplace," they said.Premier David Crisafulli said "there is more work to do" on legislation around knife sales.
Earlier, Mr Crisafulli said attempted murder was not included in the LNP's flagship "adult crime, adult time" policy, under which juveniles convicted of serious offences face the same penalties as adults.
