Toreros solidify hold on second place in WCC with showdown looming against first-place Gonzaga
University of San Diego broke out the bats over the weekend at Pacific, averaging nearly 10 runs a game on the way to a three-game sweep that positioned the Toreros to challenge for the West Coast Conference’s regular season championship.
USD junior catcher Caleb Ricketts was 6-for-16 with six RBIs and sophomore second baseman Chase Meidroth was 5-for-16 with six RBIs in the series to lead the Toreros offense. SDSU is still in last place in the seven-team conference. With six games remaining in conference play, the Aztecs are four games behind fourth-place Fresno State for the final spot in the MW Tournament being hosted by the San Diegans.
After the series, the Sea Lions will look ahead to this weekend’s seedings for the NCAA Division II playoffs, which begin May 19.Tuesday-Wednesday at Fresno Pacific, 2 p.m. /2 p.m. .Cal State San Marcos closed out the season by winning its four-game series at Stanislaus State .
