Collins struck out 10 or more batters for the fourth straight game, giving the senior over 200 strikeouts for the season. “She had a little bit of a fever the other day and she’s been fighting through it, but she’s a trooper,” Alfaro said. “Right before the game we were debating whether we’re going to play her or start her and she said, ‘Coach, I want the ball. So when she tells me she wants the ball, I’m going to give to her because she’s going to come out and give us that type of performance.”
Melendez and Westfahl scored on sacrifice flies from Fillinger and Collins, respectively, to tie the game at 2-2. After an intentional walk, Brooke Westfahl ripped a double down the third-base line to score Ariana Gonzales from second base to put MacArthur up 3-2. Brooke Westfahl tried to steal home to extend the lead, but she was tagged out at the plate to end the inning.
