Steven Moreira scores in 96th minute to give Crew a tie at FC Cincinnati
Caleb Porter said the Crew dominated the game in the second half and was upset about FC Cincinnati fans throwing beer at Crew players after the game. Not long after the Crew celebrated an unlikely tying goal that followed nearly 75 minutes with very few scoring chances created, FC Cincinnati defender Matt Miazga’s shot deflected off the legs of Crew right back Steven Moreira and past goalkeeper Eloy Room for the lead.
Center back Miloš Degenek sent in a long pass toward the box in desperation. A Cincinnati defender headed the ball but it did not clear the box. That's when Moreira ran up to it and gave the Crew a dramatic goal to finish a game in which they'll gladly run away with a point. When Porter, Crew players and other staff on the field went over to the corner closest to Crew supporters who made the trip to celebrate the draw after the game, Cincinnati fans started throwing water bottles and beer at them."That's one of the most classless things I've seen in this league in nine years to have fans literally throwing projectiles at our players," Porter said."Imagine if a beer can hits one of our players in the head, or a water bottle, from the upper row.
The way the Crew played, however, Cincinnati was the more deserving team to win in the end, having created numerous chances and allowing very few from the Crew. "We had a lot of good chances, a lot of good moments in around the goal, scored a deserved two goals," Porter said."Very happy with the second half and not as happy with the first."
Cincinnati could have been up by at least three goals in the first half while the Crew's two shots weren't closer than 30 yards from goal.
