COVID-19 Commander Jeroen Weimar has told Victorians in regional NSW to return home warning the outbreak in Sydney is “extremely volatile” and a hard border decision was on the “edge of the razor”.

“We are exceptionally concerned about the ongoing spread of the virus in the Greater Sydney area,” he said in a Saturday press conference.

Mr Weimar said a hard border could be introduced by the government with very little notice after active cases in NSW rose to 450. This morning New South Wales Premier Gladys Berejiklian announced 50 new locally acquired COVID-19 cases were recorded overnight, 26 of which were in the community while infectious.
