A comedian saw some audience members walk out of a show in Dallas, Texas, over a joke about transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney.
Chrissie Mayr was performing at the Hyena's Comedy Club on May 7 when her show was interrupted by hecklers who were attempting to defend Mulvaney.Mayr teased Mulvaney, who was not present, about not having a double mastectomy procedure — often referred to as top surgery — done in the year since the influencer's transition began. The comedian joked that she herself would immediately replace her genitalia if she chose to transition.
"Uh-oh, we have one of those," Mayr responded."No, it’s all good. We can all have different beliefs; it’s okay. Some of us can believe in reality, and some of us can’t." As more audience members laughed, the original heckler and others got ready to leave. As they did, one called the comedian a"f***ing transphobe."
The rest of the room met their absence with cheers and applause. Those who walked out would go on to knock over Mayr's merchandise table, according to the comedian.Mulvaney has been the focus of a public relations disaster for Anheuser-Busch after revealing that the influencer was a partner of Bud Light. Mulvaney also showed off a custom can the brand sent to mark 365 days of"girlhood," which the influencer celebrated in March.
Conservative commentators, politicians, and celebrities alike have reacted to the partnership by boycotting the company and calling for others to do the same.
