Andrew Chappell, a volunteer with the San Antonio Food Bank, loads groceries into a car during curbside pickup. The food bank is extending its hours Friday and Saturday in response to the winter storm that came through San Antonio.Earlier this month, I was at a food distribution where hundreds of families were receiving bags of fresh produce along with a box of nonperishable food.
As we walked, she shared that her husband had recently died. She had taken off work to get food. She had been working extra hours as she had to pay for some auto repairs. She was worried her car might not start. So much expectation … so much pressure. She said the stress was overwhelming, but she wouldn’t give up, although she felt hopeless.
I told her not to give up and that if she had time to come back in a couple of weeks, we would have turkeys at the next food distribution. She said she would be back because if she could get a turkey, she wanted to have her parents over to enjoy a Thanksgiving meal.My stress was now high. So much expectation … so much pressure. I was comforted knowing I was not alone. I just had to keep the faith that the miracle would happen.
