State court asked to interpret County Code on who has responsibility for certain fiscal functions.
WILLIAMSPORT -- Commonwealth Court is being asked to interpret the County Code on whether the commissioners or controller are responsible for certain fiscal functions.
This is not about people not getting along, Mirabito said, but rather about a statutory interpretation on who has the responsibility to protect the taxpayers. “I have been willing to try and reach a resolution throughout this process, including before taking legal action, but any resolution must be one that follows the law and aligns with my responsibility as the fiscal watchdog of the county,” Rogers said.
The dispute originated in 2021 when the current board of commissioners, voicing concerns about how work was being done, transferred those fiscal functions and four employees to their Office of Budget and Finance.
