Commonwealth seizes $1.6 million Sydney home with secret room behind bookcase | gmitch_news

The Commonwealth has seized control of a $1.6 million home in Sydney’s south after federal police found drugs, cash and two secret rooms behind a bookcase during a raid in 2017.

In a statement on Sunday, the AFP said the rooms contained “cocaine, cannabis, cannabis resin, mobile phones, scales, clip-seal bags, a substance commonly used to cut drugs, and equipment used to detect surveillance devices”. One of the owners of the house was jailed for three years and six months in April 2019 after pleading guilty to a money laundering offence and the deemed supply of a prohibited drug.Three months later, the NSW Supreme Court made orders restraining the property, meaning it could not be disposed of, because there were reasonable grounds to suspect it was the proceeds of an indictable offence or the instrument of a serious offence.
