Local communities held family-friendly gatherings to help foster relationships with police.

Gov. Kathy Hochul joined residents and police leaders at the 78th Precinct's event at the Grand Army Plaza in Brooklyn.

The annual event was designed to heighten awareness of efforts to prevent crime and drug abuse and to increase participation in anti-crime programs. "Together, we send a message that these are our communities and we will stand up against anyone who tries to violate the safety of this great community, and that's my message here tonight. We are together against crime to protect our citizens, our kids, our schools and our businesses," Hochul said.
